Tennessee Policy: Make Children Suffer

Parents must either drop lifesaving care for their kids or get reported to ICE

Cruelty. There’s no other word for it.

“Tennessee health department warns parents their children will be reported to immigration officials. Letters give parents until June 30 to decide whether to keep their disabled children on a public health program that provides life-sustaining care or risk reporting. ...The program, accessed through local public health departments, serves as a last-resort public health insurance program for low-income kids with disabilities, kids on ventilators and kids with life-threatening illnesses, such as cancer, spina bifida, congestive heart disease and terminal illnesses. For decades, the program has served children in Tennessee regardless of immigration status”. (1)

“Chronically ill immigrant children to be reported to ICE under Tennessee law… About 400 disabled immigrant children who are receiving lifesaving state-paid medical care will have their immigration status reported to ICE at the end of this month, because of a new Tennessee law drafted with input from the White House”.
