Most states seem to have sets of official somethings.
Surely you remember lists of them from when you were in grammar school.
Things like official state flowers. Trees. Birds. Mammals.
Cute sentiments, no?
So. Are you ready for……...official state firearms?
Yep. Official state firearms.
Nine jurisdictions have them: Utah, Arizona, Indiana, West Virginia, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Alaska, Tennessee, and Texas. (1) Wisconsin is contemplating the idea. (2) Recently, North Dakota’s House of Representatives rejected the concept. (3)
In the gutters of our streets, human blood flows -- daily.
There is no end to the agony and misery.
All I can say is this: the very thought of firearms being lumped in with state symbols is sickening.
Sickening.
I should observe that most state guns are antiques.
However, at least one is commercially available: Tennessee’s Barrett Model 82/M107 is manufactured in that state. (4) If the Wisconsin legislation ultimately becomes law, then it, too, would highlight a locally produced rifle, the Henry All-Weather .45-70. (2)
Amid all of the carnage and suffering inflicted by our guns-sotted culture – who really thinks that slipping firearms into lists of innocuous state symbols is a super swell idea?
Anyone? Anyone?
Yet seemingly, it’s come down to this: move over, you parakeets, petunias, perch, puppies, and porcupines! You’re now being joined by……..pistols!
