Memo to Illinois Governor Pritzker: You're Stuck with Existing Congressional Maps
As if a score of Democrats 14, Republicans 3 wasn't enough
News item: “(Illinois Governor JB) Pritzker also said he has considered whether Illinois should respond (to proposed Congressional redistricting in Texas) by redrawing its own map in Democrats' favor, as “’everything has to be on the table.’" (1)
As if an Illinois Congressional delegation of fourteen Democrats and three Republicans isn’t enough of a partisan gerrymander and cramdown. Thanks to Illinois’ convoluted and contorted election laws, candidates are already out gathering petition signatures for a general election that is fully fifteen months away. And they’re doing it based on the existing rules. (2)
Change the maps midstream? Good luck with that.
