"Not to have equitable distribution of vaccines is not only a question of being immoral, it is also a question of being stupid," U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres) and WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on October 7th.
They’re right, of course. The longer the pandemic rages worldwide, the greater the chances are that a new variant will emerge — a variant that will resist the current vaccines.
Guterres also remarked: “I have long been pushing for a global vaccination plan to reach everyone, everywhere, sooner rather than later. … Yet instead of global coordinated action to get vaccines where they are needed most, we have seen vaccine hoarding, vaccine nationalism, and vaccine diplomacy.”
